Hilda K. Jindra

Hilda K. Jindra, daughter of Georg Jindra and Maria Lenhardt, was born on 6 Jul 1900 in Town of Kossuth, Manitowoc County, WI, died on 31 Jan 1976 in Holy Family Extended Care Facility, Manitowoc at age 75, and was buried in Mishicot Cemetery, Mishicot.

In the pamphlet, “The Eighth Manitowoc County Annual”, 1913-1914, pg. 22, Hilda Jindra is listed as participating in the Graded School Declamatory Contest at the Court House Saturday, April 26 at 10 a.m. She participated in the Grammar School category (Grades 6-7-8) with the selection “Poor Little Joe”

In 1918 The Glee Club of Mishicot High School presented two operettas. Hilda was among the principals.

In 1919, Hilda was a member of the cast of the school play. During that year Miss Laura B. Smith resigned her position as chairman of the program committee of the Good Luck Literary Society. Hilda was appointed in her place.

In 1920, Hilda won second place in the Mishicot declamatory contest. She graduated form Mishicot High School in May 1920.

By 1930, Hilda had moved to Gary and began her lifelong career as a teacher in the public schools of Gary, Indiana, retiring in 1962.

Hilda was never married. She remained close to the family and often traveling back to Wisconsin to visit with family and friends with her friend Mary F. Harris.

After retiring she was a member of the Ladies Guild of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Two Rivers. Rev. Harmon Krause officiated the burial at St. Peter ‘s Lutheran Church in Mishicot.
