Emil Jonas

Emil Carl Johann Jonas was born 21 Jul 1893, the son of Fred and Wilhelmina (Sporleder) Jonas. He spent his early life on the homestead farm in Two Creeks.

He married Martha Schmidt, daughter of George Schmidt and Martha Kouba on Nov. 23, 1918. They moved to the farm in Two Creeks. Tired of farm life, they lived there until about 1945 when they sold the farm and the family moved to Two Rivers. Emil got a job at Schroeder mill where he worked at up until the time of his death.

Martha was born 4 Feb 1897 and was educated at the District 2 graded school in Two Creeks. This is the same school that was built on the edge of Fred and Minnie’s property. Martha died 19 May 1963. Martha and Emil were members of the St. John Lutheran Church in Two Rivers.

Emil died 22 Jun 1950. They are buried side by side in Forest View Cemetery Two Rivers.

The couple had two sons Alfred and Arnold.

Arnold never married. He was born 24 Feb 1921 and died 1977. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945. After the service he was employed at Hamilton Industries, Two Rivers for 36 years. Arnold is buried in Knollwood Gardens, Town of Kossuth, Manitowoc County.

Alfred was born 27 Sep 1919 in Two Creeks and died 26 Jun 2004 in St. Mary’s Nursing Home Manitowoc. He married later in life, 2 May 1964 to Edith Paknke.
