John Jonas

Johann Joachim Jonas was the name given to the 4th surviving son of Fred and Minnie (Sporleder) Jonas. He was born 2 May 1881 in Two Creeks Manitowoc county, Wisconsin. We originally thought he died before 1951 because he is not listed in his brother Wilhelm’s obituary.  However, since he more or less disappeared after 1910, we are not sure of what happened to him.

The family rumor is that John moved out west. In his father’s obit in 1934 he is listed as living in Minnesota. For some reason John disassociated himself from the family. A mortgage executed by Emil Jonas (the youngest son) in May of 1919 with his parents, provisions are made to pay the children of said Frederick and Wilhelmenia Jonas within 6 months of death the sum of $200. In the list of children John is not mentioned.

John was listed in the 1910 living in Pierce County, North Dakota (Township 157, District 147). Fred, John and Herman are listed as partners on a farm there. John is single. They owned the farm property and it was free from mortgage.

I was unable to find a WWI Draft Registration for John. I also have not been able to find him in any subsequent censuses.

If anyone has any further information on John Joachim Jonas sometimes known as John Jones, please let us know. We would all like to know what happened to him.
