Lena (Jonas) Vitt
Caroline Sophia Jonas was the oldest daughter of Friedrich Theodor Jonas and Wilhelmine Sporleder. She was born on 18 Oct 1879 in Two Creeks, Manitowoc County. She died young on 4 Jan 1921 in Sebeka Hospital, Sebeka, Wadena, Minnesota at age 41. Cause of death, gangrene. She was known by the name of Lena.
Caroline married John Vitt about 1897. John was born on 9 Oct 1868 in Germany. Shortly after their marriage the couple moved out to Iowa and later Minnesota where they became farmers. John immigrated from Germany in 1882 and was naturalized in 1896. In 1900 they had a residence in Underwood Township, Redwood County, Minnesota; in 1910 they had moved to Paddock, Otter Tail County, Minnesota, where they spent their remaining years. Paddock is located approximately in the center of the state.
Five children were born to the marriage:
- Emma Frances Vitt, (1898-1976)
- Elmer August Vitt, (1900-1976)
- Edna Elizabeth Vitt, (1903-1977)
- Regina Alvina Vitt, (1905-unknown)
- Alfred Jacob Vitt, (1909-1979)
Lena and John were buried at the St John’s Cemetery, Corlis, MN.
