Mr. Rohr was born in Kewaunee and was employed by Green Bay and Western Railroad for many years. He and his wife were members of St. Agnes Church. Mr. and Mrs. Rohr are survived by two sons, Louis Jr., at home; Edward, U.S. Army in Germany; one daughter, Mrs. Michael (Mary) McLeod, Green Bay; one grandchild. Mrs. Rohr is also survived by her father, Frank Szymanski, one sister, Mrs. Kenneth Johnson; three brothers, Max, Edward, and Matthew, all of Green Bay. 1616 | Mrs Lemberger Passes; Leaves 62 Descendents - Well known resident of the city passes at advanced age last night. Mrs. Theresa Lemberger, 84, passed away last evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Joseph Buchner, after a lingering illness of some months. Death was brought about by infirmities incident to old age. Funeral services for Mrs. Lemberger will be held Friday morning at 8:45 from the Buchner home and at St. Michael's Church in Whitelaw, a solemn requiem high mass being celebrated. Burial will take place at Whitelaw where Mrs. Lemberger lived most of her life. Born in Germany March 1, 1843, Mrs. Lemberger who was Theresa Meyer before her marriage to Wolfgang Lemberger 60 years ago, came to this country at the age of 20 years, coming to Manitowoc County where she was wedded four years after herarrival. Mr and Mrs. Lemberger lived at Whitelaw until five years ago when they removed to this city to make their home with Joseph Buchner at 1209 South Eleventh street. Two years ago, Mr Lemberger passed away. Mrs. Lemberger leaves 61 descendants to mourn her passing. They are 37 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, five daughters and three sons. The daughters are Sisters Christina and Elizabeth of Silver Lake convent, and Sister Bartholomew of Nebraska and Mrs. Anton Paul of Sturgeon Bay and Mrs. Joseph Buchner of this city. The sons are, Wolfgang of St Peter's Minnesota, Anton and Joseph of Whitelaw. Three brothers also remain, being Martin Meyer of Whitelaw, Wolfgang Meyer of Clarks Mills and John Meyer of Germany. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Reedsville Funeral Home and at 11 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church, Whitelaw. Officiating at the concelebrated Mass will be the Revs. E.A. Radey, Leo Schmitt and Francis Rose. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Brunner was born Aug. 3, 1886, in the Town of Cato, daughter of the late Frank and Margaret Rippe Kohlbeck, and she was married to Adolph Brunner Sept. 24, 1912, at Clarks Mills. She was a 50-year member of the Christain Mothers of St. Michael's. Manitowoc Herald Times Tuesday, February 25, 1969 pg. 3 ******** POUR GASOLINE IN BOILING WATER, EXPLOSION, SERIOUS BURNS FOR WHITELAW WOMAN AS RESULT Mrs. Ed Brunner Suffers Serious Injury as Result of Using Oil in Wash Water Which Had Been Heated An explosion which resulted when she poured a quantity of gasoline into boiling water which she was using for washing clothes came near resulting fatally for Mrs. Edward Brunner of Whitelaw, Mrs. Brunner being seriously burned about the face, neck and arms as result of the explosion and it is feared that she may be scarred for life as a result of her injuries. Mrs. Brunner is the wife of Ed Brunner, proprietor of a hotel at Whitelaw and was engaged in superintending the weekly washing at her home. Like many other housewives Mrs. Brunner has on occasions used a small quantity of gasoline in the water used for boiling clothes and intended to do this but had neglected to place the gasoline in the water before heating. Remembering that this had not been done, Mrs. Brunner attempted to pour the oil in the water while it was heating on the stove with the result that the explosion followed. Mrs. Brunner's face was seriously burned, her hair scorched and part of her eyebrows burned off and she is under the care of physicians. 1619 | Mrs. Alwina Vogtel Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock Mrs. Herman Vogtel breathed her last at the Loretto Hospital. Altho it was known that she had been ill for several weeks, no one thought that her end was so near, and the news of her demise proved quite a shock to her many friends. Mrs. Vogtel had been seriously ill several years ago with rheumatism, and since then she had been apparently in the best of health until about a year ago when she commenced ailing. Her ailment was diagnosed as gall-stones and gall-bladder trouble and her condition became so alarming the week before her death that it was decided to perform an operation which was done at the Loretto Hospital Monday morning. The surgeons who performed the operation considered her case hopeless from the start but she lingered until Wednesday morning. The deceased was born in Nicollet Township, Nicollet County May 22 1876, as a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Freitag and was consequently only 38 years, 6 months, and 3 days old when she died. From Nicollet County, the family removed to Eden Township in the county where the deceased was married October 23, 1894 to Herman Vogtel, who survives her. Shortly afterwards they moved to New Ulm where they have since resided. At the time of her death Mrs. Vogtel was a member of the Lutheran Ladies' Aid Society who attended the funeral in a body. In this society she was always an earnest and active worker and she will be greatly missed. She is survived by her husband, one daughter and a son just a year old. 1620 | Mrs. Anna M. Pfaff, 75, a resident of Lutheran Home for the Aged, for the last five years formerly of 76 Sibley St., died at 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. Agnes Hospital. She was born June 13, 1893, at Marshfield, a daughter of Joseph and Mary Wittman Grall. She was married to Harrison G. Pfaff on January 20, 1915, at Marshfield. Mrs. Pfaff lived all her married life in Fond du Lac. She was a member of First United Presbyterian Church, Deborah Society of the church, Paramount Lodge 336 and Zeruah Rebeckah Lodge. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Esther Felda of Fond du Lac; three grandchildren, Robert, Connie and Brian Felda, all of the city; two sisters, Mrs. Mayme Schaefer and Miss Isabelle Grall, both of the city. The former Anna Carstens was born March 20, 1884, at Manitowoc Rapids, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Carstens. She was married to John Schwantz on June 9, 1906. He died in May, 1916. She then was married to Leo Szabados on June 10, 1918. He died Aug. 4, 1956. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Brillion, and its Ladies Aid. Surviros include two daughters, Mrs. Henry, (Frieda) Pleichwehl, Brillion, and Mrs. Erhardt (alma) Haupt, Manitowoc; one son Reuben Schwantz, Manitowoc; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren, and two brothers, Henry, Brillion, and Louis, Manitowoc. 1626 | Mrs. Catherine Vieau Passes Away Tuesday Mrs. Catherine Vieau, 86, one of the older residents of the town of Ashwaubenon, died Tuesday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Edwin Cavil, town of Hobart. She was born in Bohemia and came to Green Bay in 1869. For some time after that she lived in the home of Dr. Crane, and in 1870 she was married to Andrew J. Vieau, nephew of Solomon Juneau, founder of Milwaukee. Ten children were born to the couple and five daughters survive, as follows: Mrs. Frank Paul and Mrs. Fred Wagner, Green Bay; Mrs. Edwin Calvin, town of Hobart; Mrs. Helen De Noble, Appleton. Thirty-six grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren survive. The body is at Ryan's funeral home on S. Broadway, and funeral services will be in St. Joseph's church, but the time has not been decided. 1627 | Mrs. Charles Denk, 86, of Rt. 1, Cato, died Saturday evening at Maple Crest Nursing Home, Whitelaw. Funeral services will be at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at Reedsville Funeral Home and at 9 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Clarks Mills. The Rev. Leander Nickel will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Denk was born Mary Kohlbeck May 10, 1882, in the Town of Cato, daughter of the late Frank and Margaret Ripp Kohlbeck. She was married to Charles Denk Sept. 29, 1908, at Clarks Mills and they observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1953. Mr. and Mrs. Denk farmed in the Town of Cato until their retirement 10 years ago. They had been residing at the Maple Crest Nursing Home the past two months. Survivors include her husband; a son, Frank, of Rt. 2, Reedsville; a daughter, Mrs. Lester (Marie) Peroutka, of Oshkosh; three brothers, Louis of Whitelaw and George and Ferd of Rt. 1, Cato; a sister, Mrs. Ed Brunner, of Whitelaw; 11 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. 1628 | Mrs. D. Osborne Is Laid At Rest Here Saturday Many Friends Pay Last Tribute to Memory of Well Known Resident of This City. Last Rites were held for Mrs. David E. Osborne Saturday morning at 9 o'clock at St. Jude Thaddeus church, with the Rev. Father Corbett officiating. Low requium mass was said, and hymns were sung as follows: "Hymn to the Sacred Heart" and an "Ave Maria", by Mrs. Willow Guenser, Mrs. Charles Hilla and Mrs. V.R. Griswold. Interment was in the Calvary cemetery. Pallbearers included Peter C. Barrett, W.L. MacKenzie, George Rist, Bert Wade, William A. Ries, and Frank Cowan. The church was filled to capacity as friends gathered in memory of a woman who had lived for many years in Havre. Floral tributes had told her story of friendship and sympathy. Rosary services had been held the previous day, and where many friends had called. Members of the Neighbors of Woodcraft attended the services in a body, Mrs. Osborne having been a member of that order. Born April 4, 1884, Mrs. Meta Osborne had come to the United States at five years, living in Chicago and Hillboro, N. Dak., before coming to Havre about 1900 with her mother, Mrs. Xavier Peopin. She was married to M. J. Donnellan in 1904, one daughter, Ruth Donnelan, being born to them, she surviving her mother. In 1922, she was marriedt o David Osborne, by whom she is survived. Her mother died about three years ago having been bedridden for 15 years, during which time her daughter had tenderly cared for her. Her parents were the late Hubert and Emmaline Francart. She was a member of St. Patrick Parish and the Parish St. Anne's Society. She was also a longtime member of the Secular Franciscans. Her home was in Portage. The Requiem High Mass will be held Friday morning at 10 O'clock at St. John's Catholic Church, the Very Rev. Michael J. Keinhofer officiating. Interment will take place in Hillsdie cemetery. The general rosary service is scheduled for 8:30 o'clock Friday evening at the Rembs Funeral Home, where the body will lie in state beginning Thursday noon. 1635 | Mrs. Frances Pritzl, died at her home in this city last Sunday, the cause of death being pneumonia. Decedent was born in Bavaria in 1853. At the age of four years her parents emigrated to America and settled in Whitelaw. She was married to Wolfgang Pritzl in 1869. Her husband died some years ago. Surviving her are eight sons, and four daughters. The sons are Wolfgang of West Holland, Joseph of Kasson, Frank, Charles and Adolph of city, Tony, Greenleaf, John with the military forces at Camp Grant and Alfred of Quebec, Canada. The daughters are Mrs. Fr. Kleiber and Mrs. John Ecker of this city, Mrs. Fr. Baumann of Branch. 1636 | Mrs. Frank Lemberger Dies At The Hospital Death last evening claimed Mrs. Frank Lemberger, 88, of Cato, at the Holy Family hospital following an operation. Mrs. Lemberger, who is the mother of eleven children, was born at Cato, September 15, 1858 and has made this county her home during her life, with the exception of five years, during which the family lived in Brown county. The eleven children who survive her are Mrs. Mary Neuser, Silver Lake; Mrs. Francis Heinrichs, Rapids; Mrs. Joseph Heran, Francis Creek; Mrs. Elizabeth Schuh, Whitelaw; Miss Barbara Lemberger, Cato; Frank, Chippewa Falls; George, Appleton; Louis, Clarks Mills; Joseph of this city; and Edward, Cato. Her husband has preceded her in death, having died in January 1921. Twenty-seven grandchildren, one brother and two sisters also survive. 1639 | Mrs. Fred Jones Killed By Horse Two Ribs Broken over the Heart Cause Death a few Hours After Injury Mrs. Fred Jones,, formerly of Franklin, residing norteast(sic) of Morton was kicked by a horse while hitching up her team after a visit at Chas. Stall home on Wednesday of last week, which resulted in her death the following morning. The tragedy is a severe shock to the bereaved family and their friends. Mrs. Jones had called at the Chas. Stall home and had stayed for dinner. After dinner she went out to hitch up the team she was driving as she attempted to rearrange some part of the harness the horse kicked striking her over the heart, and breaking two ribs. She was taken to her home where she was given medical care, but the injury was too severe for her to withstand, and she passed away Thursday morning. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, Rev. Saur of Morton officiating, and interment made in the Morton ecmetery(sic). The pallbearers were John Blank, Ed. Factor, Herman Vogtel of New Ulm, Otto Hopp, August Freitag and Gust Kremin of Vesta, Minn. Mrs. Fred Jones, nee Freitag, was born in Nicollet county in 1878, and moved to Brown county with her parents while yet a small girl. At the age of nineteen she was united in marriage to Ray White, who three years later lost his life in a railroad accident. To this union a son and daughter was born, namely Howard and Adeline White. Seven years later she was united in marriage to Fred Jones. To this union six children were born, namely, Emmet, Harvey, Harry, Fred, Lydia, and Irene, all of whom, together with her husband, mourn her untimely death. She also leaves three brothers, Robert, August and Fred Freitag. The tribune extends deepest sympathy to the bereaved family in their sorrow. 1641 | Mrs. Grall Dies Sunday Evening - Early Resident of Marshfield Succumbs to Illness of Long Standing Mrs. Joseph Grall, Sr., a resident of Marshfield for the past 36 years, died at St. Joseph's hospital at 7 o'clock Sunday Evening, losing a battle against a decline that set in several months ago. Mrs. Grall was removed to the hospital several days ago when her condition became extremely critical, and from that time on only slender hopes for her recovery were held. Funeral services will be held in St. John's Catholic Church at 9 o'clock Thursday morning with the pastor, Father A.J. Dorrenbach, officiating at a requiem high mass. The death of Mrs. Grall removes a resident of Marshfield for whom many held an affectionate regard. The deceased was prominent in the Altar Society of St. John's church and an active member of the Missionary Association of Catholic Women, and also belonged to the Royal Neighbors. Mr. Grall, whose maiden name was Mary Wittman, was born in the Township of Cato, Manitowoc County, Wisconsin, June 5, 1868, and grew to young womanhood there. Her marriage to Mr. Grall was solemnized on June 7, 1886. Several years later she and her husband moved to Marshfield and their home has been here since. Twelve children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Grall, nine of whom survived the deceased mother. Death occurred at the home of her daughter, Mrs. David Osborne., with whom she has lived for some time. There were a great many floral trubutes for the woman who had been an invalid for many years, during which time she had been tenderly cared for by her daughter, Mrs. David Osborne. Pall bearers included Bob Lucke, P.C. Barrett, Jim Delaney, Frank Blanke, Frank Cowan, and John Lamey. The church choir furnished the music for the service. Interment was in Calvary cemetery. Mrs. Helen Pepin was born in Germany April 26, 1959, the daughter of D. Oltjen. Some ??? years ago she became the wife of X. Pepin, with whom she pioneered in Havre many years ago. Her husband died 12 years ago, about a year after Mrs. Pepin had suffered the stroke of paralysis which made her an invalid for the last 13 years. She lived, during this time with her daughter, Mrs. David Osbourne, by whom she is survived. No other children were born to them. Her only other surviving relative in this country is her granddaughter, Ruth Donnellan, of Greta Falls. An only brother died in Germany during the war. The daughter of Gustave and Maximilia Thirion, was born March 12 ,1891 in De Pere and has been a lifelong resident of the area. She was a member and past president of the Green Bay Golden Age Club. Survivors are one daugher (Mrs. Michael (Lucille Vincent) Feher, De Pere; four grandchildren, John and Kenneth Vincent, Kay Van Dreel and Jean Minten, De Pere; 11 great-grandchildren and a brother, George Thirion, DePere. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer, Feb. 26, 1921, two brothers and four sisters. At Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N. Webster Ave., De Pere, after 2 p.m. Monday. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, Green Bay, with Msgr James DeWitt officiating. Burial will be in Mt. 1645 | Mrs. Jennie Collen Wed to E.A. Radey Mrs. Jennie Collen, 206 S. Broadway, De Pere, and E.A. Radey, 422 N. Maple avenue, were married at 10:30 Monday morning in Green Bay. Mrs. Stanley Vincent, De Pere, attended her mother as matron of honor and John Ferron was best man. For the ceremony the bride wore a lilac-colored street dress and a corsage of gardenias. After the ceremony Mr. and Mrs. Radey left for the Pacific cost with stops en route to tour Yellowstone National park, Montana, and the strate of Oregon and Washington. THey plan ot return the first part of August to sped the balance of the summer at their Edgewater Beach cottage. 1646 | Mrs. Jessie Pauline Lestina nee Keppen, 73, of North Prairie, died Tuesday at Waukesha Memorial hospital after an illness of five days. She was born Oct. 22, 1882 at Mukwonago and came to North Prairie in 1891. On Dec. 13, 1899, she was married in Waukesha, to Jacob A. Lestina whose death occurred in 1951. A daughter Lola Hall alsd preceded her in death. Mrs. Lestina was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America. Survivors are five daughters, Mrs. Gladys Van Serke, Milwaukee, Mrs. Ruth Jensen, Delafield, Mrs. Helen Pratt, Mrs. Jeanette Griser, and Mrs Carol Hough, all of Waukesha; ten grandchildren; five great grandchildren and one brother Walter Keppen of Genesee. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at North Prairie Methodist church with the Rev. Edward Erickson officiating. Interment will be in North Prairie cemetery. The body will be moved from the Pfeffer funeral home to the Carstens homestead, and friends may call there after 2 p.m. Friday. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the farm home and at 2 p.m. at the St. John Evangelical Lutheran church in Newtonburg. The Rev. F. C. Knueppel will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Mrs. Carstens, nee Lisette Ahlers, was born in Newton in 1860 and was married to John Carstens in 1883. They operated the Carstens farm until it was taken over by their son, John Jr. Mr. Carstens died two years ago. JOHN FRONEK DIED LAST NIGHT Wife of Langlade County Assemblyman Succumbs to Long Illness Mrs. John Fronek, 47, passed away at her home in the town of Ackley Monday evening at 11 o'clock after an illness of about a year or more. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at St. Mary's Catholic church. The Rev. Emil Shimek will conduct the services, and on Saturday morning at 9 o'clock he will celebrate a solemn requiem high mass. Burial will take place at the Stengl cemetery. Emma Honzik was born October 27, 1883, in the town of Gibson, Manitowoc county. She lived there until she was sixteen years of age, when the family moved to Antigo to make their home. She has lived in this vicinity ever since. On October 10, 1904, she was united to John Fronek at Antigo. To this union seven children were born. They are: Harry, Mrs. George Steber (Clara), John, Edward, Norman, Erwin and Raymond, all of the town of Ackley. She is also survived by her father, Wenzel Honzik, Manitowoc; four sisters: Mrs. Emil Kloida, Mrs. Frank Kuntiz, and Mrs. Mary Cholupka, Manitowoc, and Mrs. John Blaha, Antigo; and four brothers: Anton Honzik and Wenzel Honzik, town fo Gibson; and George Honzik of Manitowoc. Her mother preceded her in death by about eight years.
