• Notes

MARIA HERLIK from the Kewaunee enterprise newspaper Friday, June 24, 1910 Mrs. Mary Herlik. Last Sunday afternoon Mrs. Mary Herlik died at the home of her son John in this city, from infirmities of old age. She was born in Bohemia in 1823 and when still in her teens was married to George Herlik. They moved to this country in 1863 and settled in Manitowoc County on a forty acre farm where they resided up to four years ago when Mr. Herlik died and the children took hold of the work for the mother. Mrs. Herlik, since the death of her husband, has resided with her daughter, Mrs. Mary Skarwan Kossuth up to about a month ago, when her son begged his sister to leave her to his care where she could live in quiet and also to try and do the duty of every child to his aged parents-to care for her in her waning year s. Eighty-seven years old little on the mind of Mrs. Herlik, and when drawn into a conversation, she displayed a brilliant intelligence and was a good entertainer. She is survived by two daughters and one son: Mrs. Anna Radey and Mrs. Mary Skarwan of Manitowoc County, and John Herlik of this city. At eight o'clock Tuesday morning, the funeral procession left here and grew longer continually. When Gibson was reached, there were over thirty-five teams following the hearse, and as this was in the vicinity of where she spent nearly all her days in this country, the congregation of friends kept growing larger and larger so that the multitude numbered into hundreds before the destination was reached. Late in the day, the procession reached Kellnersville, where her body was laid to rest in the Catholic Cemetery.
