MONTROSE - Our beloved wife, mom, gramma and friend to many, Joan Carlisle "Jonny" Jindra, age 75, of Montrose, went to be with our Lord early Thursday morning, Oct. 7, 2004, with her son, Jeff, by her side at the Eagle Ridge Care Center in Grand Junction, Colo. Jonny suffered a stroke in August of 2002 and continued to bless our lives with grace, dignity and courage through a series of difficult and painful medical problems. She remained at home under the care of her devoted husband until May of 2004. Her son and daughter faithfully provided care, love, and emotional support while the family faced each medical challenge.
Joan Carolyn Carlisle was born to Forrest and Gladys Carlisle on Oct. 1 6, 1928, in San Francisco, Calif. She graduated from high school in California and went on to attend Colorado University at Boulder, graduating in 1950 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education.
It was during college that she met her beloved husband and life partner, Robert Ray Jindra. Robert had to charismatically charm Jonny, as she was sought after by many because of her warm kindness, beauty and grace. Robert did win her heart and they had a wonderful, loving marriage of 55 years .
Jonny was involved with her community. She served as kindergarten teacher in Ouray for three years, and was librarian of the Ouray Public Library for over 10 years. She also made many baby quilts for underprivileged children, and volunteered her time to Habitat for Humanity, Sharing Ministries Food Bank, and preparing Christmas boxes for needy families. Christmas was Jonny's favorite time of year and she always began preparing f or it in January, buying little family gifts all through the year.
Jonny loved life. She was forever working on many projects at the same time. She was a master quilter, voracious reader with at least two or three books always in progress, an ambassador to animals, and a gracious friend to many. She didn't especially enjoy entertaining, however, she did so with charm, perfection, and many beautifully prepared meals. Jonny 's favorite place to be was at home surrounded by warmth, comfort and a ll of her beautiful creations.
Jonny leaves her husband, Robert, of Montrose, Colo.; a son, Jeff, of Las Vegas, Nev.; a daughter and granddaughter, Robin and Kate Beagle, of Grand Junction, Colo.; her cat, Alice; and many dear friends - including her quilting group in Montrose. Jonny will be missed by all of us who we re privileged to be a part of her life.
A service is planned for Tuesday, Oct. 12, at 2 p.m. at the Montrose Unit ed Methodist Church in Montrose.
