George GRALL, deceased, who was a prominent farmer of Rolling Township [Langlade County, Wisconsin], was born in Austria on 15 August 1854, the son of George and Theresa GRALL. When eighteen months old he moved to the United States with his parents, settling on a farm at Francis Creek, Manitowoc County, Wisconsin. Here he attended parochial school and assisted his father on the farm. He also engaged in carpenter work for a time.
Mr. [George] GRALL [the subject of this sketch] was united in marriage to Barbara THOUSER [a maiden name?] on 02 July 1880, to which union ten children were born: (1) Barbara, now Mrs. Jos. CEJKA, of Antigo [Langlade County], Wisconsin; (2) Frank, of Rolling Township, Langlade County, Wisconsin; (3) Charles, also of Rolling Township; (4) George, of Milwaukee [Milwaukee County, Wisconsin]; (5) John, also of Milwaukee; (6) Anna, now Mrs. S. A. KLAJBOR, of Antigo; (7) Joseph, of Antigo; (8) Clarence, also of Antigo; (9) Irene, deceased; and (10) William GRALL, of Wausau [Marathon County], Wisconsin.
Mr. [George] GRALL came to Rolling Township in 1882 when this territory was a vast wilderness. He engaged in agriculture on a forty-acre farm which he lived to see developed into one of the best in the county. On 13 April 1914 he [George GRALL, the subject] moved into the city of Antigo, retiring from his years of farm work. It was his great enjoyment to see his sons carry on the work where he left off.
Mr. [George] GRALL [the subject] passed away 15 November 1919, at the age of sixty-five years and three months, and was laid to rest in the Antigo Catholic Cemetery. He was a member of the Catholic [Order of] Foresters and the Modern Woodmen of America. Mrs. [Barbara] GRALL is living at the GRALL residence, 412 Edison Street, Antigo [Langlade County], Wisconsin. George GRALL was a thrifty and substantial citizen who did his part in the upbuilding of a new country.
