  	POLIO VICTIM DIES IN HOSPITAL. Racine County's first poliomyelitis death of 1950 came Wednesday afternoon when Martin Barthels, 9, of Burlington, died in Wisconsin General Hospital, Madison. Martin had the bulbar type of polio. Two in Family Stricken The boy was the son of Rev. and Mrs. George H. Barthels, 495 Madison St., Burlington. His father had been pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church in Burlington, and recently accepted a call to Red Wing, Minnesota. The Barthels family was ready to move to the new home when two of their children were stricken with polio. A younger son, (private), 2, is still confined to Wisconsin General Hospital with polio. Martin Barthels was born Sept. 15, 1941, at West Bend. He was stricken with polio on July 15. Survivors include the boy's parents, three sisters,(private), and his brother (private). Funeral services will be held at St. John's Church in Burlington at 10 a.m. Saturday and the boy will be buried in Mishicot. Racine Journal Times, Racine Wisconsin, August 3, 1950
