- Frances was the older of two daughters of Jesse Earl Jordan (1896-1947) and his first wife, Myrtle Bates (1896-1958). She appears in Minneapolis in the census of 1920, age 4, as a granddaughter, living with her parents and sister in the home of her mother's mother and her second husband Herman Jones. In 1930, she lives in San Francisco with her parents and sister Virginia. The 1930 census is the last that records this family as intact. In August 1931, Virginia's father married her aunt, Myrtle's sister Louise Bates.
About 1935, Frances married Howard Joseph Frank (1915-1993); their daughter Patricia Lee was born in 1936. The census of 1940 finds the family in San Francisco (Frank's birthplace) living with Frances' remarried mother Myrtle Kent (but not her husband). When Howard, age 25, registered for the draft (ca. 1942) in San Francisco, he named "Miss" Myrtle Kent, his mother in law, as his next of kin. The address was 222 15th Ave. in San Francisco (same as in the 1940 census); this is also the address given for Myrtle, so she still lived with the couple at that time. Frank, a policeman, worked for San Francisco Police Department.
By 1950, both of Patrica Lee Frank's parents have remarried - her father to Helen Sloan and her mother to Chester Hymes, and both had children with their new spouses. Myrtle Kent lives with Frances and Chester Hymes in San Francisco in 1950. Chester is a postal clerk. In that census, two of Chester's children by his first marriage, Steven and Sandra, live with them and there is a new daughter, Jessica, born that year. Chester and Frances would have four daughters -Jessica, Kimberly, Wendy, and Cynthia. Patricia is not with either parent in the 1950 census and I have been unable to locate her for that year. In some documents, she used her stepfather's name, Hymes.
Frances remained in San Francisco, where she died on 22 April 1995.
