    Radey Joseph L. Radey, 78, of 1205 Franklin St., Manitowoc, retired county tavern keeper, died Saturday night at Milwaukee General Hospital, following a lingering illness. For the past year and a half he had been residing with a daughter, Mrs. Steve Fote, in Milwaukee. Funeral services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, and at 9 a.m. at the St. Boniface Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. Alfred Pritzl will officiate and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc. Radey was born in Kellnersville in 1876 and in 1907 married Miss Anna Seidel. He operated a tavern at Branch for 20 years and 18 years ago moved to Manitowoc. Mrs. Radey died in 1952. Survivors are 11 daughters, Mrs. Peter Balistreire and Mrs. Cleon Baer of San Diego, Calif., Mrs. Clarence Barel, Mrs. Steve Fote, Mrs. James Jelinek, Mrs. Savatore Papia, Mrs. Ira Ludwig and Mrs. Michael Gurich of Milwaukee, Mrs. Alfred DeVuyst of Los Angeles, Mrs. Michael Augustine and Miss Joan of Manitowoc; son, Gordon of San Diego; two brothers, Frank of Rt. 5, Manitowoc and Emil of Green Bay; two sisters, Mrs. Richard Stangel of Kewaunee and Mrs. Anna Ginzel of Manitowoc; 30 grandchildren and a great grandchild. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Wednesday where the rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

    1935 to 1943: Works Progress Administration, later known as the Works Projects Administration (WPA), employed local workforce to help workers and the economy during the depression.
    1937: 280 acres acquired for what would become Point Beach State Forest. This included 80 acres of surplus land from the lighthouse donated by the U.S. Government.
    1938: Manitowoc County Board appropriated $9,500 for land purchases north of Two Rivers for transfer to the state to develop into a park. The State of Wisconsin, along with Manitowoc County and the City of Two Rivers, purchased an additional 724 acres.
    1939: WPA began work on road construction and developing a forest lodge. The lumber came from this forest and shakes came from the Lake Elba prison camp at Rhinelander. Rip-rap came from the Jambo Creek area. Tree planting also began this year with 475,000 trees planted, mostly red pine but also 5,000 white pine and 2,000 spruces.
    1940: The administration building was completed.

    Peter Radey, aged 83 years, a resident of Manitowoc county for over sixty years and who drove teams of oxen here with grain and other farm produce from the farm near Kellnersville, passed away yesterday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Richard Stangel, five miles this side of Kewaunee. Funeral services will be held on Saturday morning at ten o'clock from the Catholic church at Kellnersville with interment there.

    Mr. Radey came to this country when a young man of 23 years and has always resided here. For the past few years he has been living a retired life at the various homes of his children. Two daughters, Mrs. Stangel of Kewaunee and Mrs. Emil Kuenzel(sic) of Milwaukee and four sons, Joseph of Two Rivers, John, Montana, Emil, Green Bay and Frank, Route 6 Manitowoc, survive.

    No information has been found regarding Peter's immigration other than 32 Years in County in 1900 according to his obituary and 1868 referenced in the 1900 and 1920 Federal Censuses.
