    Robert J. Steffens, (“Bopboo” to his grandchildren) of Menasha passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday morning, July 14, 2017 at Theda Clark at the age of 72. He was born on November 1, 1944 in Portage, Wisconsin son of the late William J. and Margaret C. (Gruetzmacher) Steffens. Bob graduated in 1962 from Kaukauna High School, and was furthering his education until he joined the U.S. Army in August of 1965. He was a Russian Linguist and Voice Intercept Operator for the Army for four years.

    Bob worked at Neenah Foundry Company for thirty-four dedicated years. He retired as a production supervisor in 2006. For several years, he served as a Winnebago County Sheriff Reserve Deputy, fulfilling a life-long dream of working in law enforcement.

    Bob married Margaret M. Rohr on September 15, 1973 in Two Rivers, Wisconsin. Their marriage was blessed with two children and 46 wonderful years. Bob was an adventurer, and he and Margaret loved to explore the backroads of northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula. He enjoyed reading, hiking, camping, and listening to jazz and classical music.

    He will be sadly missed by his wife, Margaret "Muggs"; his children: Eric (Nicole) Steffens, Milwaukee; Jennifer (Chris) Groeschel, Appleton; grandchildren: Alexander, Julia, and Hayden Groeschel, and especially his favorite mailman tormentor, Lilly. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved grandmother, Anna (Sarnow) Gruetzmacher; aunts: Anna Gruetzmacher; Eda (Maurice) Huddart; Martha Sarnow; sister-in-law, Charlotte Gordon, and his favorite sock bandit, Aimee.

    Private family services were held. Full military honors were performed by the U.S. Army and the Neenah/Menasha Veterans Honor Guard. Inurnment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
