He accompanied his parents to the United States in 1861 and settled in Nicollet, Minnesota, which town has since been his home. Mr. Freitag's marriage occurred in 1869; his wife, Louisa Rumja, was born in Germany. They are the parents of seven children and only three are living: Hulda, Fred and Matilda.
From History of the Minnesota Valley.

    Accident:
A serious runaway accident occurred near Nicollet station last Friday. Fr. Freitag's hired man was returning from a neighboring field with a spirited team, and beside him on the wagon seat was seated the four-year-old child of Mr. Freitag, who had been visiting at a neighbor's. Arriving at the pasture, the man jumped out to open the gate and before he could regain the lines the horses started into a brisk run toward the house. Mr. C. Freitag, aged 70 years, was in the yard at the time and when the runaways came near him he endeavored to stop them with his cane. His effort only resulted in turning them short around, one of the horses running over him, at the same time upsetting the wagon. The old gentleman was very seriously injured about the head and chest, and the child received a terrible gash on the side of the face and neck, and for a time it was feared the former was fatally hurt. Dr. Daniels of St. Peter was called and at latest accounts both the old gentleman and child were improving. Mr. Albert Freitag, of this city, was informed of the accident by special messenger and he at once went down to assist in caring for the injured.
