    Philip John Schaefer, Sr., 78, retired town of Two Rivers farmer, died at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at his home at Two Rivers. He had been ailing since a fall on the court house steps in Manitowoc March 5 in which he sustained a broken hip.

    Funeral services will be held at Two Rivers Monday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the Klein & Stangel, Inc., funeral home and at 2 o'clock from the St. John's Lutheran church with the Rev. W.G. Haase officiating. Interment will be in Pioneers' Rest cemetery.

    Mr. Schaefer, was born in the town of Two Rivers March 20, 1862. As a young man he took up farming. Seventeen years ago he retired and moved to Two Rivers. His farm was taken over by his son, Philip, Jr., who now operates it.

    On Feb. 16, 1886 Mr. Schaefer married Miss Marie Meineke, also of the town of Two Rivers. The widow survives with three sons, Philip, Jr., town of Two Rivers, Williiam of Two Rivers, and Royal of Chicago; two daughters, Mrs. Arthur Gloe of Two Rivers and Mrs. Louise Wiltrout of Oslo, Minn.; and six grandchildren.

    J. Meineke, a wealthy farmer who resided a few miles north of the city, died last week while in Chicago for the purpose of receiving medical treatment. His remains were brought home for interment last Friday (5th) evening and the funeral, which took place on Sunday (7th), was one of the largest ever seen in this vicinity.

    John Peter Schick, came to America in 1848, with five grown daughters, from Partenheim, Hesse, Darmstadt, Germany. His wife, Phillipine Katherine Gebhardt, whom he married in 1818, died at age 48, in 1845, in childbirth. Seven children had died before, one with mother, and one nine days later. John and his daughters all settled in Buffalo, New York.
    The daughters were Christina (married Gottleib Schmelzer). They would visit the Meineke’s in Wisconsin). Also Dorothea Miller and Marie Koehm. One daughter, Elizabeth Kunsdorf, also died in childbirth, leaving a son, John, and a daughter, later named Sister Mary, Lady of Charity. Their father, being a drinker, was unable to care for them, so they were put in a Catholic orphanage. during the late 1930’s and early 1940’s, she was assigned to a girl’s orphanage in Green Bay and would often visit relatives in our area.
    Daughter Katherine W. Schick (called Catherine) married Johann (John) Meineke (1827-1882), of Hanover, Germany in Buffalo, New York about 1854. Four years later, they came to Wisconsin with two young children, Louisa Catherine and Henry.
