Arnold was the son of Frederick Sporleder and Francis Werner. He married Gretchen Faber on Oct 28, 1919 at Carroll, IA. They were the parents of Frederick, Martha, Catherine, and Robert.

April 26, 1971 - Carroll Daily Times - Lidderdale - Arnold August Sporledcr, 81, of Lidderdale died at 5:15 a.m. Sunday, April 25, at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll, where he had been a patient for three weeks. He was a lifelong resident of this area and a retired farmer.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Lidderdale, with the Rev. Albert T. Bostelmann officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, under direction of the Dabn-Woodhouse Funeral Home of Carroll, where friends may call after 1 p.m. Monday.

Mr. Sporleder, son of Frederick and Francis Werner Sporleder, was born March 15, 1890, in Grant Township, Carroll County. He served in World War I, and farmed on the same farm on which he was born.

On Oct. 28, 1919, he was married at Carroll to Gretchen Faber, who survives. He was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Lidderdale, and a charter and 50-year member of Maurice Dunn Post No. 7, American Legion at Carroll.

Surviving with his wife are four children, Frederick A. Sporleder of Carroll, Mrs. Theodore (Martha) Hoemann of Indianapolis, Ind., Mrs. Harold (Catherine) Rudi of Tucson, Ariz., and Robert C. Sporleder of Charter Oak; also 12 grandchildren.

One grandchild, one brother, and one sister preceded him in death.

Arnold married FABER, Gretchen Catherine on 28 Oct 1919. Gretchen was born on 19 Jul 1890 in Wittmund, Niedersachsen, Germany; died in 1975; was buried in Lidderdale, Carroll, Iowa, United States. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Dec 1, 1975 - Carroll Daily Times - Lidderdale - Funeral services for Mrs. Gretchen Catherine Sporleder, 85, of Lidderdale were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church here. The Rev. Albert T. Bostelmann officiated. Congregational hymns were "I Am Trusting Thee, Lord Jesus" and "Beautiful Savior". A.L. Daenzer was organist. Pallbearers were Carl Sporleder, Ervin Sporleder, Lawrence Sporleder, Emil Kurth, Elmer Fricke, and Oliver Wenck. Interment was in the church cemetery, under direction of the Dahn-Woodhouse Funeral Home of Carroll.

Mrs. Sporleder, widow of Arnold Sporleder, was dead upon arrival at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll at 8:45 a.m. Friday, Nov. 28. She was born July 19, 1890, at Osfrieslund, Germany, a daughter of Rudolph and Martha Gerdes Faber. She had been a resident of this area since 1909, coming from Germany. On Oct. 28, 1919, she married Mr. Sporleder at Carroll.

Surviving are four children, Fritz of Carroll, Mrs. Ted (Martha) Hoemann of Indianapolis, Ind., Mrs. Harold (Catherine) Rudi of Anaheim, Calif., and Robert of Charter Oak; 12 grandchildren and a brother, Carl Faber of Lidderdale.

A granddaughter preceded her in death in addition to her husband.
