    Grass Fire at Fremont causes Minor Damage

    Weyauwega-The West Bloomfield Fire Department was called to the Elwyn Jonas farm, route 2 Fremont, at 3:30 p.m. Thursday to extinguish a grass fire.

    The Wisconsin Conservation Department and the Weyauwega Fire Department were also called for assistance.

    Damage was minor according to Norman Schoenick, fire warden.

    The Globe Hill Cheese Factor was built on the southwest corner of the Globe Hill Farm owned by John Chiber. It was located on the corner of Rocky Ridge and River Hills Road. Mr. Chiber made cheese here for many years. Walter Jonas was its first cheese maker and Melvin Sanders was the last one. It is now the home of the Tony Kittles.

    On Sept. 30, 1879 August and Sophia Jonas sold his property to Fred and Minnie(Wilhemeina) The Mortgage for Fred and Minnie was recorded July 13, 1882 V. 16, p 335

    In the 1895 State Census we find Fred and his family in Town Two Creeks.
    6 males, 4 females, 8 born in Wisconsin, 2 in Germany. This would indicate that Fred's mother would now be deceased.

    May 14, 1919 a mortgage was executed by Emil Jonas and wife Martha for a sum of $5000. ...Fred and Wilhemina to use and occupy for their place of residence the kitchen and bedroom in the N.W. corner on lower floor of the house in said premises and the N. E. bedroom on the 2nd floor of said house, so long as they or either of them shall live; together with the right of the grass to and across from said room and premise sand the right to use the well and out buildings. ...to pay to Fred & Wilhemina the sum of five dollars on the 1st of each month. To furnish to said Fred and Minnie all the fuel, flour, meat, egg s, butter, milk, and vegetables which they may need for their own us e, so long as they or either of them shall live. ...also necessary nursing, medical attention and medicine in case of sickness...and to give a proper burial and pay all expenses.     FRED JONAS, 81, DIES AT HOME OF SON Funeral Services to Be Held on Monday for Aged Resident Here

    Fred Theodore Jonas, 85, a resident of Two Rivers and the Town of Two Creeks for 81 years, died at the home of his son, Emil, Two Creeks, at eight o'clock this morning. Death was attributed to the infirmaties of old age.
    Funeral Monday
    Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:15 from the home of the son, and at two o'clock from the St. John's Lutheran church, with Rev. W.G. Haase officiating, with burial in the Pioneer's Rest cemetery.
    Jonas was born in the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg, Germany, on January 18, 1849 removing to the United States four years later and settling with his parents in Two Rivers. In 1871 he married Wilhelmina Spohrledter, during a two year sojourn in Illinois.
    The couple returned to this county, making their home on a farm in the Town of Two Creeks, Two Rivers, route 1. His wife died eleven years ago.
    Nine children, 26 grand children and four great grandchildren survive.
    The children are Mrs. Louis Raper, Chicago, Mrs. Minnie Tess, Sawyer, Wimmilam, Cambria, Fred, Bird, Minnesota, Henry, Wausau, Emil, who resides on the homestead and who assumed management of the farm when his father retired in 1918, Walter, Chicago, John and Herman of Minnesota.
    The body will be taken to the home from the C.J Jansky funeral parlor tomorrow afternoon.

    The body of Mrs. Fred Jonas, former resident of Two Creeks who died at Chicago, arrived here last night and was taken to Two Creeks where the funeral will be held tomorrow. Mrs. Jonas was well known in and about Two Rivers. Death was due to complications of diseases.
