LUXEMBURG NEWS, Friday, August 19, 1910: Three Old Pioneers Are Laid To Rest During the Past Week
One more of our old and respected citizens of Kewaunee county has gone to the great unknown. Slowly the grip that death attaches to us all, is fastening itself upon the pioneers, the men who helped subdue the wilderness and make Kewaunee county what it is today, a county of farmers and homes and not one of forest and waste. They are to be congratulated and honored for their great strife against the forces of nature but no more fitting comment is due them than to say they were the founders of thriving Kewaunee county and the glorious state of Wisconsin.
So it was when death called the time of passing of another pioneer Patrick Kelliher of the town of Casco.
Mr. Kelliher was born in Kerry County, Ireland some seventy years ago. When fifteen he emmigrated to America and settled down in the state of Massachusetts. During the fifties he settled in Kewaunee county where he has since made his home.
Here he married Honora Reidy who died thirty years ago while our townsman Ed. J. Kelliher was still an infant. Eight children were born to bless their union, two girls Miss Ellen of Marinette and Mary who died when a child of twelve years, six boys John of Dakota, William of Anaconda, Mont., James who is traveling for a large bridge concern, Patrick who is dead, Thomas who resides at the old homestead and Ed. J. Kelliher of South Luxemburg. Besides the children left to mourn their loss is a large circle of friends and relatives.
The deceased who died Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home of his son Thomas, was buried from the Catholic Church at Slovan Monday at 10 o'clock a.m. Rev. Kabat officiating.
He was followed to his last resting place by one of the largest congregation of friends ever seen at Slovan, which goes to show with what respect he has held.
