103 CIRCUMSTANCES OF LOSS
First Lieutenant Leland L. Eckart., was a Marine pilot assigned to VMF-213, a fighter squadron based at Henderson Field, Guadalcanal.
On 25 April 1943, VMF-213 launched a strike against Japanese forces at Kolombangara Island. Eckart was part of a four-plane flight that strafed Blackett Strait and then attacked a large force of unsuspecting enemy aircraft over Vangunu. In the course of a few minutes, six Zeros and two Corsairs went down, including Eckart’s F4U-1 02399.
No definitive trace of Lieutenant Eckart was ever found; he was declared dead as of 26 April 1945.

Clarence Emond, 67, Mishicot, died early Tuesday morning,
November 10, 1987, at Holy Family Medical Center, Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Mishicot, the
Rev. David Waege will officiate and entombment will be in Knollwood Mausoleum.
Mr. Emond was born May 14, 1920, at Two Rivers, son of the late Luke and
Hilda Bernhardt Emond. He was employed at Schaus Hardware until 1965 and then
employed with Curtis Mathis of Manitowoc working as a TV repairman, retiring in 1982.
Mr. Emond was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and member and past president of
Manitowoc Camera Club.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Harold.
Friends may call at Lambert Funeral Home, Mishicot, 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday

George Lambert, 75, of 1708-27th St., Two Rivers, died Sunday evening, Jan. 29, at the Two Rivers Community Hospital.


Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Lambert Funeral Home and 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Mishicot. Rev. Richard Allen will officiate and burial will be in the parish cemetery.


Mr. Lambert was born Aug. 1, 1908, in the Town of Mishicot, son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Cretton Lambert. He married Alice Pawlovich on May 27, 1931, at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Mr. Lambert farmed in the Town of Mishicot until 1968 when he moved to Two Rivers and became a self-employed painter and was also employed at Manitowoc Shipbuilding, retiring in 1973.


Survivors include his wife, Alice; a son and daughter-in-law, George R. and Dorothy Lambert of Oshkosh; two daughters and sons-in-law, Delores and Franklin Benthien of R. 1, Mishicot and Carol and Paul Menges of Larrabee; 15 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.


Friends may call at Lambert Funeral Home, Mishicot, 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday where a memorial service will be at 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.

117 John Lenhardt, 54, of 921 South Twelfth St., a resident of Two Rivers 
until nine months ago when he moved to this city, died at 1 o’clock 
Sunday morning at Holy Family hospital. He suffered a heart attack 
Friday. 
Mr. Lenhardt was born at Two Rivers, Feb. 26?, 1887, and followed the 
plumbing trade for many years. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. 
E. L. Weber and Mrs. Albert Donchack, both of this city. 
The body will lie in state at the Pfeffer Funeral Home where funeral 
services will be conducted Tuesday morning at 8:30 o’clock followed by 
services at 9 o’clock at St. Boniface church. The Rev. J. H. Schmitt 
will officiate and burial will be in Pioneers’ Rest cemetery at Two 
Rivers. The rosary will be recited tonight at 7 o’clock.

Jindra, Jon F.

Jon F. Jindra, age 68, of 1214 School St., Two Rivers, died Sunday morning, August 14, 2011, at his residence.

Jon was born December 14, 1942, in Two Rivers, a son of the late John and Bernice (Malkowski) Jindra. He graduated from Two Rivers Washington High School with the class of 1960. Following high school, Jon served in the U.S. Air Force for four years. He graduated cum laude from Northern Michigan University in 1975. He was a substitute teacher at Crystal Falls, Mich. and also taught biology at Gogbebic Community College. Jon was a foreman for Iron County Community Action before returning to Two Rivers in 1978. He was employed with Manitowoc Homes, was a self-employed contractor for over twenty years and was most recently employed at Burger Boat Co. Jon was an avid Green Bay Packers and Chicago Blackhawk fan, enjoyed listening to country music, hunting, fishing, drawing pictures and watching cartoons with his grandson, T.J. He was a member of the Masonic Temple and American Legion Post # 165 of Two Rivers.

Survivors include his daughter: Molly Jindra, Two Rivers; three grandchildren: Erikka Rose, Brogan Elena and Thane Joseph; one brother: David Jindra Sr., Sheboygan; two sisters: Julie Denfeld, Two Rivers and Kris Coons, Manitowoc. He is further survived by a sister-in-law: Mary Jindra, Manitowoc; along with nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one brother: James Jindra; a sister-in-law: Helen Jindra and a brother-in-law: Dale Denfeld.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 18, 2011, at Deja & Martin Funeral Chapels, 1506 18th St., Two Rivers. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Joan Frost. Military honors will be accorded immediately following the services by members of American Legion Post # 165 and V.F.W. Post # 1248 of Two Rivers. The family will greet relatives and friends at the funeral home on Thursday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m.

Mrs. Joseph Kohlbeck, 73 (photo), of 509 State Street, Manitowoc, died Sunday morning at the home, following a short illness.


Funeral services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home, Manitowoc, and at 9 o’clock at the Sacred Heart Church. The Rev. L. M. Schorn will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen cemetery, Manitowoc.


She was born Josephine Johanek in Franklin in 1879 and in 1898 was married to Mr. Kohlbeck. They settled in Kellnersville where Mr. Kohlbeck was a carpenter contractor. In 1929 they moved to Manitowoc. Her husband preceded her in death in 1935.


Survivors are a son, Edwin J. of Manitowoc; daughter, Mrs. Alvin Holly of Manitowoc; brother, George of Manitowoc; two sisters, Mrs. William Korinek of Menominee, Mich., and Mrs. Margaret Zeman of Manitowoc.


Friends may call at the funeral home where the Altar Society of Sacred Heart congregation, of which she was a member, will recite the rosary at 7 p.m. Monday.

Mrs. John Haese, 87, Mishicot, died Tuesday at Family Heritage Home, Manitowoc.
The former Laura Schnell was born Jan. 7, 1889 in Brillion, the daughter of the
late George and Mary Schnell. She married John Haese in 1908 at Brillion. The
couple moved to Mishicot in 1918 and her husband preceded her in death in 1974.
Survivors include sons, Harold, Manitowoc, Clarence, Mishicot; daughters, Mrs.
George (Linda) Wuellner, Manitowoc, Mrs. Verna Cain, DePere; a brother, Ruddie,
Green Bay; sisters, Mrs. Katie Drahn, Denmark, Mrs. Della Degner and Mrs. Elvira
Frunz, Brillion; 22 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren. Two infant children,
two brothers and a son-in-law, Martin Cain, preceded her in death.
The funeral was held Friday at Zion United Methodist Church, Mishicot, the Rev.
Dr. Lee Downs, officiating. Burial was in Mishicot Public Cemetery.

Louis G. Kohlbeck, 78, 930 S. 21st St., Manitowoc, died early Tuesday morning following a brief illness. Funeral services were held this Thursday morning at St. Mary Catholic Church, Manitowoc, with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. John S. Landowski officiating. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery.


Mr. Kohlbeck was born April 12, 1888, in the Town of Kossuth, son of the late Alois and Anna Hruska Kohlbeck. He married Anna Popelar at Kellnersville Nov. 25, 1908 and the couple located on a farm in the Town of Kossuth, moving
to Manitowoc in 1919 where he was employed at Aluminum Specialty Co.


He was a member of St. Mary Holy Name Society and the Musicians Local 195. He played bass with the Old Franklin Brass Band, the Mike Yindra Orchestra, Skornicka Band of Denmark, Art Braunel Orchestra, Paul Gosz Band, Dick Fricke
Orchestra and Aluminum Specialty Band.


Surviving are his wife, two sons, Gordy of Los Angeles and Lydian of Manitowoc; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Five brothers and four sisters preceded him in death.

(1859 - 1940)

Mrs. Mary Kohout, 80, lifelong resident of the town of Cooperstown, died at the family home near Greenstreet in the town of the Cooperstown on Thursday.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9 o'clock from the home and at 9:30 at the St. Joseph's Catholic church at Kellnersville, the Rev. Joseph Kalisek officiating.

Mrs. Kohout was born Mary Kaska in the Town of Cooperstown on July 25, 1859. She was married to Joseph Kohout in 1879, and the couple operated a farm in the town of Cooperstown until 20 years ago when they retired and moved to a home at Greenstreet. Mr. Kohout died eight years ago.

Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. John Schubert and Mrs. Godfried Kunz of Maribel, a sister, Mrs. Thomas Petska of Maribel, 12 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

The body will lie in state at the Kohout home from this afternoon until the hour of the funeral.

131 MARY RETZLAFF


Mrs. Retzlaff Dies of Injuries At Hospital
Complications resulting from a broken hip has caused the death of Mrs. Charles Retzlaff of Two Creeks. Mrs. Retzlaff suffered a broken hip as the result of a severe fall two weeks ago. She was taken to the local hospital and was a patient there until death came at 1:30 this morning.


Mrs. Retzlaff, nee Marie Carstens, was born on July 28, 1859 and would have been 76 the latter part of this month. She was born at Newton. In December 1883 she was married to Ernst Pmeich (sic) in Milwaukee (sic). The couple resided there until the death of Mr. Pmeich six years later. Mrs. Pmeich then left Milwaukee to make
her home at Two Creeks where she has resided ever since. Forty years ago she was married to Charles Retzlaff who died about two years ago.
Mrs. Retzlaff is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Anna Diedrich of Newton and Mrs. Sophia Wenholz and Mrs. Carl Schmidt of Mishicot; three step-children, William and Carl Retzlaff and Mrs. Ida Guetschow who reside near Two Creeks. Nine grandchildren and one great grandchild also survive.


Funeral services will be held from the Klein and Stangel chapel Thursday afternoon at 1:50 and from the St. John's Lutheran church at two o'clock. The Rev. W. G. Haase will officiate and burial will be at Forest View cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Klein and Stangel funeral home and can be viewed there until the time of the funeral.

ROBERT F. LAHEY, age 87, of Eaton, Ohio, died Monday, May 8, 2006 at Heartland of Eaton. Born on November 21, 1918 in Two Rivers, Wisconsin, he was the son of the late Edward W. & Ella (Gruman) Lahey. He retired in 1982 from Snyder Skate Company in Dayton and was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Eaton and was a U.S. Army Air Corp veteran of WW II. He has lived in Eaton since 1960. Preceded in death by Son: Patrick Lahey in 2000, 2 Brothers and 6 Sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years: Ruth S. (Ploeckelmann) Lahey; Daughter & Son-in-law: Maxine & Norman Smuck, Paoli, Indiana; Son & Daughter-in-law: Michael & Cathy Lahey, Cincinnati, Ohio; 5 Grandchildren; Nieces & Nephews.

Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2006 - 2:00 P.M. at Grace Lutheran Church - 111 Lutheran Drive - Eaton, Ohio with Pastor John Place officiating. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in Forest View Cemetery, Two Rivers, Wisconsin. Arrangements Entrusted to Barnes Funeral Home - 220 East Main St. - Eaton, Ohio.

(1947 - 2009)

Paul Wilbert Kappelman, age 61, of rural Two Rivers, died on Friday morning, Jan. 2, 2009, at home after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.

Paul was born on Sept. 7, 1947, in Manitowoc, son of the late Paul C. and Leona (Ploeckelman) Kappelman. He was a graduate of Manitowoc Lutheran High School with the class of 1965 and graduated from UW-Madison Short Course in 1967. Paul married Donna J. Rusch on November 28, 1970 at Trinity Lutheran Church. He farmed the family homestead until 1989. Paul was later employed by Hamp-Haven Farms, L & S Farms, and Green Bay Dressed Beef until his illness. Paul was a dedicated and hard worker who will be missed by many. He was a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church. Paul enjoyed doing home repairs, playing sheepshead, NASCAR racing - especially watching Matt Kenseth - and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a proud Green Bay Packer fan and stockowner.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, 916 Pine St., Manitowoc. The Rev. Paul Schossow and the Rev. Nicholas Maglietto will officiate with burial at Knollwood Memorial Gardens, 1500 Hwy 310, Manitowoc.

Relatives and friends may call at the church from 4 until 8 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009, and again on Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church and School.

The family wishes to send a special thank you to the Aurora Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic, 3rd floor nurses at Aurora Medical Center, and Barb Koeperich of Health Core for their compassionate care and support given to Paul and his family.

Mrs. Roshelle (Tweetie) Wentker, 24, of Route 2, Manitowoc, died unexpectedly Wednesday evening in Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc.


Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday in Lambert Funeral Home, Mishicot. The Rev. Herbert Kesting will officiate and burial will be in Mishicot Public Cemetery.


Mrs. Wentker, nee Roshelle Ross, was born March 30, 1955, in Shawano, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Ross Sr. She graduated in 1973, from Roncallie High School, Manitowoc. She was married to John Wentker November 10, 1973, in St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mishicot.


Survivors include her husband, John; a son, John Jr. at home; three daughters, Nicole, Cherie, and baby Shellie at home; her parents of Route 2, Manitowoc;
two brothers, Donald Jr. and Jesse of Route 2, Manitowoc; three sisters, Mrs. Roxie Kuffel, Mrs. Roberta Chaloupka and Jessica of Route 2, Manitowoc.
Friends may call in Lambert Funeral Home after 6 o'clock this Thursday evening.
