ERHARDT WILLIAM MEINEKE
Erhardt William Meineke, entered his eternal home on Thursday, August 19, 1993. He resided at 2309 Washington St., Two Rivers, Wis.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday August 23, 1993, at Calvary Lutheran Church, Two Rivers. The Rev. Robert Sullivan will officiate with burial in the Pioneer Rest Cemetery, Two Rivers.
Mr. Meineke was born January 8, 1906, in the Town of Two Rivers, son of the late Charles and Minnie Schmidt Meineke. He attended the former Sandy Bay Country School and graduated in 1923 from Washington High School, the first class to graduate from the new school building.
In October 1923, he went to Chicago and worked for his uncle's construction company, "Otto Schmidt Construction Company." The company built several post office buildings in Illinois, such as within the cities of Elgin and Wheaton. In 1923, the company built the Medinah Country Clubhouse and golf ground buildings for the Shriners.The company helped build the Two Rivers Post Office in 1933. Through this work he became a master stone mason.
He married the former Viola Hels, of Chicago, at Bethany Church, Chicago, Ill., on November 25, 1935. They returned to Two Rivers to reside. She preceded him in death on January 5, 1965.
He worked for the "Immel Construction Company", Fond du Lac, "Hamann Construction Company", "Hoffman Brothers", and various other companies.
He retired in 1970 as a stone mason and observed his Union Mason membership of 50 years membership in 1988. A 32nd degree Mason, he entered the Masonic Order in Chicago, Ill. In the late 1970's. He observed 50 year membership of the Grand Lodge Free and Accepted Masons in 1977. He was a Past High Priest of Barny G. Lyman Chapter and Past Associated Patron and Patron of Manitowoc and Two Rivers Chapters of Eastern Stars. He was awarded the Royal Arch Man of the Year Award for the State of Wisconsin in 1988. He was honorary Past Commander of Manitowoc Knights of Templar No. 45. He is currently a member of the Two Rivers Shrine Club of Tripoli Temple, Milwaukee, Kewaunee-Algoma Chapter of Order of Eastern Stars No. 228, Manitowoc Masonic Lodge No. 65,Manitowoc Chapter No. 16, Manitowoc Council No. 18, Manitowoc Commandery No. 45 Knights Templar, and Two Rivers Senior Center.
He was on the Property Committee of Calvary Lutheran Church, Two Rivers, for many years. In retirement, he enjoyed traveling, golf, bowling, playing cards,and attending sports events.He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Marilyn and Florian Rohr, Two Rivers, Joyce and James Beth, Two Rivers, Beverly and Kenneth Etzelmueller, Wauwatosa, eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Ruth (Harold) Meineke, Two Rivers, Mrs. Hattie (Herbert) Meineke, Manitowoc, Mrs. Esther (Leonard) Traxel, Janesville; nieces and nephews. Hewas preceded in death by his wife, three sisters, four brothers, and one grandchild.
The family appreciates the help of friends, neighbors, North End Home Care helpers, the Medical Staff of Park Lawn Home, and Two Rivers Community Hospital, Clergy, and the caring individuals who helped in any way.
Memorials may be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital in Chicago, Ill.,Milwaukee Children's Hospital or the donor's choice.Friends may call at the Deja and Martin Funeral Chapels, Two Rivers, from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, August 22, and at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of services. Masonic Services will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
