  The Hugo and Hazel Stack Buckendahl Family Hugo J. Buckendahl was born November 30, 1898, in Pierce. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church. After completing eighth grade, he attended Seward Concordia College where he received a teaching certificate. On April 3, 1921, Hugo married Hazel Stack who was born April 8, 1903. To this marriage was born Ethel. Hugo was the Pierce County Clerk for sixteen years. He was associated with a metal and drainage concern for twenty one years. He was a salesman for Armco Steel. Hazel worked at Brandeis Cafeteria and Emmanuel Hospital Cafeteria in Omaha. They lived Omaha, Norfolk and Fremont after leaving Pierce. Hugo died August 13, 1960, at the age of 61 from a heart attack. He is buried in Malvern, Iowa. Ethel passed away October 24, 1962, at the age of 37 after a lengthy illness caused by leukemia. She is buried in Malvern, Iowa.
