  	Ernest Walter Sporleder, 96, died 30 Jan 2005 at Shady Oaks Center in Lake City. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, 4 Feb, at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Lake City, with Rev. Erwin Asmus officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday 3 Feb, at the Lampe Funeral Home in Lake City; with a prayer service following at 7 p.m. Burial will be in the Lake City Cemetery. Survivors include his daughter Ann Jacobs and husband Reverend Robert Jacobs of Ormand Beach, FL; sons Henry Sporleder and wife Jennifer of Lake City, Elmer Sporleder and wife Mary of Lake City, Dale Sporleder and wife Linda of Carmel, IN, and Duane Sporleder and wife Deborah of Lake City; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Martha (Patten), parents, Henry Carl and Wilhelmina (Boell); infant sister Cora; brothers Albert, Carl, and Waldo; sisters Clara Heuton, Emma Thede and Laura Thede; and infant grandson Jon Sporleder. Ernest Walter Sporleder was born 12 Dec 1908 in rural Parsons, Neosho Co, KS. In 1914, his family moved to a farm near Lidderdale in Carroll Co, IA. Later, in 1920 they farmed land in the Lake City area. He was united in marriage to Martha Patten on 16 Sep 1929. They helped farm with his parents until 1933, then he and Martha moved to a farm near Jolley. In 1936, the couple moved to a farm northwest of Lidderdale, where they remained until 1939. At that time they purchased a farm north of Fonda in Pocahontas Co. They lived in the Fonda area until 1955, when they moved to a farm near Auburn. Upon retirement in 1974, the couple moved into Lake City. During this time, Ernest and Martha enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends, fishing, gardening, and playing cards. They were often seen riding around Lake City on their tandem bicycle. Before Martha's passing, the couple celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary in 2002. Ernest was an active member of the Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Lake City. He was the last surviving charter member from the church's founding in 1928.
