Mary C. Thede, 81, of Sturgeon Bay, left her earthly home peacefully on Saturday morning (October 21, 2006) at the Dorchester Health & Rehabilitation Center in Sturgeon Bay.
She was born on May 8, 1925 in Kaukauna, the daughter of the late Jerome and Josie (Bries) Verhasselt. Mary was a 1942 graduate of Wrightstown High School. On February 16, 1946 she married Wayne Henry Thede at St. Pauls Catholic Church in Wrightstown, and shared 60 years together. After their marriage they lived in Milwaukee until 1990 and then moved to Bella Visa, Arkansas until 2001 at which time they returned to Sturgeon Bay where Mary worked as a waitress and as a seamstress in her home. She was well known for her charitable work as well as her talent for her cooking and baking. Her pecan rolls were enjoyed by hundreds of people. Mary enjoyed crafts, sewing, baking and writing poems.
She was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Mary was also a member of the Catholic War Veterans association.
Mary is survived by her husband, Wayne of Sturgeon Bay; daughter, Barbara Ann (Tom) Kujac of Princeton, Wisc; three granddaughters, Kathleen Timm of Princeton, Kristine Timm of New Holstein, Brittney Carlson of Ripon; six great-grandchildren, David, Alex, Leah and Kayla Schablow, Delaney Pershing and Gavin Finney; brother, John Verhasselt of Wrightstown; sisters, Joan Eckert of Fish Creek, Rita Shebel of Portage, Zita Wessa of Good Year, Arizona and Egg Harbor; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two children, Josie Ann (February 12, 1969), and Richard (September 18, 1980); and three brothers, Basil, Leo, and Orlo.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday (October 24, 2006) at 11:00 a.m. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church with Fr. Anthony Birdsall officiating. Burial will be made in Holy Cross Cemetery in Milwaukee.
Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m.
A memorial fund will be established in her name.
