Funeral services for Elmer C. J. Ahrens, 65, of Racine, a former Town of Two Rivers resident who died at his home Friday, were at 2 p.m. Monday at Deja & Martin Funeral Chapels, Two Rivers, the Rev. Paul W. Funk officiating. Burial was in Forest View Cemetery, Two Rivers.
Mr. Ahrens was born Jan. 7, 1901, in the Town of Two Rivers, son of the late John C. and Augusta Runge Ahrens. He attended the old Two Rivers High School and in the 1920s moved to Racine where he was engaged as a mason contractor. He was a member of old troop C, 105th Cavalry, Wisconsin National Guard, Two Rivers
Surviving are a son, Master Sgt. George R. Ahrens at Bunker Hill Air Force Base, Peru, Ind.; four sisters, Mrs. Edward Kastrosky, of Two Rivers; Mrs. Milton Mueller, of Manitowoc; Mrs. Raymond Meineke, of Mishicot and Mrs. George Walters, of Spokane, Wash., and a brother, Jerry A., of Rt. 1, Two Rivers.
A brother, Harvey, preceded him in death in 1965.

Man, 65, Found Dead at Home
The death of Elmer Ahrens, 65, whose badly decomposed body was found in an upstairs bedroom of his home at 6525 6 Mile Road Saturday night was due to natural causes, according to Deputy Racine County Coroner Milton Stoffel.
Sheriff's deputies who investigated the death said Ahrens may have been dead for 10 days. Deputies were asked to investigate Saturday night after neighbors reported that Ahrens had not picked up his mail for at least the last several days.

Retired Two Rivers Farmer, 95, Killed in Head-on Crash Injuries

TWO RIVERS-John C. Ahrens, 95, (photo) of Randolph Street, Mishicot, one of the nation's oldest active golfers, a retired Town of Two Rivers farmer and former owner of Fairview Golf Course, died shortly before 6:30 p.m. Friday at Two Rivers Municipal Hospital following a nearly head-on collision of cars at 45th Street and Mishicot Road earlier in the afternoon.
Treated for injuries at the local hospital was the other driver, Walter G. Ottensmann, 49, of 2111 Washington St., the new district plant superintendent of General Telephone Co. of Wisconsin, who had been wearing a seat belt when the crash occurred. He received cuts on the top of his head, bruises to his face, cuts and bruises on his left arm and to his left knee.
Ahrens had sustained a collapsed lung, broken right forearm, fractured right leg, several fractured ribs and lacerations to his scalp and head. Both of the injured were taken at one time to the local hospital in the City Emergency Vehicle.

Born in 1867 According to the police report, the crash occurred about 1:08 p.m. Ottensmann reported from the hospital later Friday afternoon that he was driving the 1962 model company car north on Mishicot Road and observed the 1938 model car driven by Mr. Ahrens proceeding southeasterly on Mishicot Road. At the 45th Street intersection Mr. Ahrens swung his vehicle to the left to go to the Fairview Golf Course for a round of golf. The cars met almost head-on and were demolished. The front of the Ahrens machine and the left side and left front of the Ottensmann auto were damaged.
Mr. Ahrens was born Oct. 22, 1867, in the Town of Kossuth, son of the late August Fredericka Protzmann Ahrens. When he was nine the family brought him to a farm just east of Shoto where he attended the old Town Line School and later became engaged in carpentering, building many of the homes in the Town of Two Rivers, including the Tannery area.
In 1896, he married Augusta Runge and took up farming on the homestead farm of his father-in-law, the late Christ Runge. Besides his farming pursuits he became a butter maker, established a route at Two Rivers. In 1929, he gave up farming and he and his son-in-law, Edward Kastrosky, converted the dairy farm into a public golf course which

was named Fairview, where the former served as greenskeeper and took an active part in developing the nine-hole course.
Retires in 1944
After Mrs. Ahrens died in 1944 he retired and the golf course was acquired by Russell Kirchner, the present owner. For the past 17 years he had lived in retirement at Mishicot after he married Mrs. Louis Zeddies in 1947. Through the years Mr. Ahrens remained an active golfer, playing the Fairview course several times weekly. He was one of the oldest active left-handed golfers in the nation. For years he formed a foursome with Frank Hess, the late Frank Becker and Fred Tegge. This foursome was referred to by the late Fred Lipowitz, LaCrosse sportsman, former national president of Bowling's National 700 Club, as the oldest in the country when Lipowitz paid visits to the course a number of years ago. Mr. Ahrens frequently until recently, played golf with his children, grandchildren and great grandchild.
Besides his wife he leaves four daughters, Mrs. Edward Kastrosky, of Two Rivers, Mrs. Milton Mueller, of Manitowoc, Mrs. Raymond Meineke, of Mishicot and Mrs. George Walters, of Spokane, Wash.; three sons, Harvey, of Bloomington, Ill., Jerry, of the Town of Two Rivers and Elmer, of Racine; a brother, Louis, of Manitowoc; 15 grand- children and 23 great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Zion Evangelical United Brethren Church, Mishicot, the Rev. Warren W. Sutton officiating. Burial will be in Forest View Cemetery, Two Rivers. Friends may call at Specht Funeral Home, Mishicot, after 2 p.m. Sunday until 10 a.m. when the body will be taken to the church to lie in state from 11 a.m. until the time of service.
