    NEWTON MAN WHO DIED ON SATURDAY WAS BORN ON THE SAME FARM ON WHICH HE DIED

    Ernst Carstens of Newton who died at the home of his son at Newton Saturday at the age of 64 years of cancer of the stomach, was born on the same farm where he died, Nov. 22, 1858. He is survived by his wife and six children, Herman, Edwin, William and Emma of Newton and Mrs. Ida Rodewald of the town of Rapids, and Carl Carstens of Manitowoc. Five sisters also survive, Mrs. Carl Dedrichs, Newton; Mrs. Henry Wehausen, Liberty; Mrs. Dedrich Wenholtz, Mishicot; Mrs. Chas. Rasselof, Two Rivers; and Mrs. Chas. Schmidt, Two Rivers.

    The funeral will be held from the home of William Carstens, Newton, Tuesday at 1 o'clock.

    Mrs. Diederich's Funeral Services Will Be Monday Manitowoc, Wis.

    Funeral services for Mrs. Carl Diederichs, 82, who died at her home in the town of Newton Thursday night, will be held Monday afternoon.

    A service will be held at 1:30 o'clock at the Edwin Diederichs residence and another will be held at 2 o'clock in the Reformed church in the town of Newton. Burial will be in the church cemetery, and the body will lie in state at the Leschke Funeral Home from this afternoon until it is taken to the Diederichs residence Sunday at 1 p m.

    Mrs. Diederichs was born Mary Carstens on June 3, 1854, in the town of Newton, the daughter of Herman and Marie Carstens, pioneer settlers of this county. On May 17, 1877, she was married to Carl Diederichs, who died 16 yean ago.

    Survivors are two sons, Otto of Plymouth and Edwin on the homestead farm, one daughter, Mrs. Selma Gosse of Elkhart Lake, two sisters, Mrs. Dietrich Wenholz of Mishicot and Mrs. Carl G. Schmidt of Two Rivers, ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

    She was a member of the Ladies' Aid society of the Reformed church.

    Mrs. Retzlaff Dies of Injuries At Hospital
    Complications resulting from a broken hip has caused the death of Mrs. Charles Retzlaff of Two Creeks. Mrs. Retzlaff suffered a broken hip as the result of a severe fall two weeks ago. She was taken to the local hospital and was a patient there until death came at 1:30 this morning.


    Mrs. Retzlaff, nee Marie Carstens, was born on July 28, 1859 and would have been 76 the latter part of this month. She was born at Newton. In December 1883 she was married to Ernst Pmeich (sic) in Milwaukee (sic). The couple resided there until the death of Mr. Pmeich six years later. Mrs. Pmeich then left Milwaukee to make
    her home at Two Creeks where she has resided ever since. Forty years ago she was married to Charles Retzlaff who died about two years ago.
    Mrs. Retzlaff is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Anna Diedrich of Newton and Mrs. Sophia Wenholz and Mrs. Carl Schmidt of Mishicot; three step-children, William and Carl Retzlaff and Mrs. Ida Guetschow who reside near Two Creeks. Nine grandchildren and one great grandchild also survive.


    Funeral services will be held from the Klein and Stangel chapel Thursday afternoon at 1:50 and from the St. John's Lutheran church at two o'clock. The Rev. W. G. Haase will officiate and burial will be at Forest View cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Klein and Stangel funeral home and can be viewed there until the time of the funeral.

    TOWN LIBERTY PIONEER DIES AT AGE OF 64

    Mrs. Henry Wehausen, aged 64 years, a native of this county who suffered a stroke a year ago, passed away yesterday afternoon at the family home in the town of Liberty. Her maiden name was Johanna Carstens and she was born in the town of Newton, Funeral services will be held on Sunday afternoon at two o'clock from the family home with interment In the Liberty cemetery.

    Besides the husband, two daughters, Mrs. A. Haberman of Brillion and Mrs. Carl Roedig of Four Corners, six sons, Adolph, Emll, Louis and Henry Jr., at. home and Herbert and John at Milwaukee and sixteen grand children survive. There are also five sisters surviving.

    Mrs. Blum, nee Meta C. Wenholz, was born Oct. 1, 1884, at Saxonburg, To wn of Mishicot, daughter of the late Diedrich and Sophia Carsten(s) Wenhol z. She was married Jan. 1, 1907, at Mishicot to William Blum. In the ear lier years of their marriage the family resided at Two Rivers for many yea rs.

    Besides her husband she leaves six daughters, Mrs. Alvin Messman, Mrs. Emm ath Jonas, Mrs. Alfred Jurgens and Mrs. Ray Steger of Two Rivers, Mrs. Har vey Baker of Bayfield, Wis. and Mrs. Fred Jonas of Rt. 1 Mishicot; a so n, Herbert of Neilsville, Wis., a sister, Mrs. Hugo Ploeckelmann of Mishic ot; 19 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. A son, daughter and sist er preceded her in death.

    Mrs. Herman Becker, aged 32, died of pneumonia Monday morning at her home in this city. She is survived by her husband and one child. The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon from St. John's Lutheran church.

    A wife and mother was called away Sunday night when Mrs. Herman Becker died at her home on 20th Street, leaving her husband and little boy, aged six years. She was a victim of influenza. Deceased was formerly Miss Mary Wenholtz of the Town of Mishicot where she was born 31 years ago. Rev. Doehler officiated at the funeral held this afternoon.

    MARTHA JONAS Mrs. Martha Jonas, 77, of Two Rivers, died early Tuesday morning, October 16, 1990, at Memorial Hospital, Manitowoc after a courageous and non-complaining bout with cancer. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Two Rivers. Rev. Edward Stelter will officiate with burial at Forest View Cemetery, Two Rivers. She was born April 11, 1913, in Two Rivers, daughter of the late William and Meta Wenholz Blum. She attended St. John Parochial School. On March 10, 1934, she married Emmath Jonas at Waukegan, Illinois. He preceded her in death August 15, 1983. Mrs. Jonas did housekeeping work and she wanted to remember all the children she babysat for during her life. (Survivors omitted for privacy) She was preceded in death by a son and two daughters. He preceded her in death on May 26, 1978. She w as a homemaker and was formerly employed by Mirro Aluminum for many yea rs and then in the housekeeping department at Holy Family Memorial Hospit al for a number of years. She was a long time member of Our Savior Ev. Lut heran Church. Marie volunteered her services to many people in need.

She worked at Memorial Hospital, Manitowoc, and for a number of years as director of nursing at Family Heritage Nursing Home, Manitowoc.

    Edgar E. Ploeckelmann, 40, former Mishicot resident, who later lived at Gladbrook, Iowa, died Saturday at Hines Veteran Hospital, Hines, Ill.

    Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Christ Lutheran Church, Gladbrook, Iowa, the Rev. Robert Wolff officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens, Marshaltown, Iowa.

    He was born April 26, 1921, at Mishicot, son of Hugo and Ida Wenholz Ploeckelmann. He served with the engineer's corps of the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater. He married Ilse Wiebensohn Feb. 8, 1948, at Mishicot. The family moved to Iowa in 1949 where he was engaged in farming at Gladbrook.

    Surviving are his wife; three daughters, Mary, Susan, and Sandra at home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Ploeckelmann of Mishicot; three sisters, Mrs. Paul Kappelman of Rt. 2, Two Rivers, Mrs. Robert Lahey of Easton, Ohio, and Mrs. Clarence Emond of Mishicot.
