According to the 1900 Federal census she immigrated in 1869. Her husband was naturalized.

Between 1790 to 1906: Women were automatically naturalized when their husbands were naturalized, but they are almost never listed by name on the husband's paperwork. Women who marry citizens gain citizenship without any additional paperwork. US-born women who marry non-citizens automatically lose their citizenship.

Her husband died in 1897 so it is unusual that she would be naturalized in 1905. Unless there was an issue that they were not actually married when he obtained his citizenship, the 1905 date is inaccurate.

Mrs. Katherine Mary Freis(sic), 79, Town of Mishicot Dies Sunday

Mrs. Katharine Mary Fries, 79, pioneer resident of the county, died at her home in the town of Mishicot on Sunday. Funeral services will be held
Wednesday afternoon at 1 o'clock from the home and at 2 o'clock in the Immanuel Lutheran church in Manitowoc, with the Rev. Theodore Uetzmann officiating. Burial will be in the Mishicot cemetery. The remains will be taken to the home from the Specht funeral parlors at Mishicot Monday afternoon.

Mrs. Freis (sic), nee Katherine Lenhard was born in the Province of Rhine, Germany, 79 years ago. At the age of 12 years she came to this country with her parents, settling in the county. Married on June 6, 1883 her husband preceded her in death a number of years ago.

Surviving Mrs. Freis are two daughters, Miss Irma at home, and Mrs. Adolph Horstman of the town of Two Rivers, and a son, Hugo on the homestead farm. A daughter, Mrs. Leo Kind, preceded her in death two years ago. She also leaves a sister, Mrs. George Jindra, Sr. of the town of Mishicot.

Mrs. Irma Retzlaff, 76, of 2110-13th st., Two Rivers, died at the home late Sunday night. She had been in failing health for the past two years.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc, the Rev. T.F. Uetzmann officiating. Burial will be in Mishicot Public Cemetery.

Mrs. Retzlaff, nee Irma Freis, was born Sept. 3, 1885, in the Town of Kossuth, a daughter of the late Fred and Catherine Lenhardt Freis. She was married June 8, 1836, to William Retzlaff at Manitowoc. She had been residing at Two Rivers since. Her husband died April 28, 1940, in Two Rivers.

Surviving are a brother, Hugo Freis, of Two Rivers, a niece and three nephews.

Friends may call at Klein and Stangel, Inc. Funeral Home, Two Rivers, after 2 p.m. Tuesday until 10 a.m. Wednesday when the casket will be taken to the church where the body will lie in state after 11 p.m. until the time of service.

ELEONORE HORSTMANN


Mrs. Adolph Horstman (sic), 51, died Saturday evening at the home on route 2, Manitowoc. She was stricken with a sudden heart attack after being in normal health and performing the usual household duties during the day.


Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m., from the home and at two o'clock from the Immanuel Evan. Lutheran church, the Rev. Theo. Uetzmann officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen cemetery.


Mrs. Horstman, nee Eleanore Freis(sic), was born in Mishicot in 1890 and was graduated from the Teachers Training school. She taught rural schools in the county for 15 years and 18 years ago was married to Mr. Horstman. They located on the homestead farm in the town of Two Rivers.


Survivors are the widower; daughter Lorina at home; son Delmar at home; brother Hugo of Mishicot; sister, Mrs. William Retzlaff of Two Rivers.


The body will be moved to the Horstman home this evening from the Wattawa, Urbanek And Schlei funeral home and may be viewed there until the hour of services.

Hugo Freis, 72, of 1222A S. Seventh St., Manitowoc, died Monday morning at the home after a heart attack.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc, the Rev. T.F. Uetzmann officiating. Burial will be in Mishicot Public Cemetery.

Mr. Freis was born April 28, 1892, in the Town of Mishicot, son of the late Fred and Katherine Lenhardt Freis. He farmed in the town of Mishicot until 1944 when he moved to Two Rivers and was employed by Paragon Electric Co. and Boehringer Fuel Co. until his retirement in 1958.

Survivors are a niece and three nephews. Three sisters preceded him in death.Friends may call after 6 o'clock this Tuesday evening at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home, Ninth street entrance, Manitowoc, until noon Wednesday when the casket will be moved to the church where the body will lie in state until time of service.

Cyril Kind of 2911 East 92nd Street, Chicago died unexpectedly Sunday at Port Huron, Mich.. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Lambert Funeral Home at Mishicot. The Rev. Theodore Uetzmann will officiate and burial will be in Mishicot Public Cemetery.

Mr. Kind was born May 15, 1919, in the town of Gibson, son of the late Leo and Clara Freis Kind. He was employed as a seaman in the Merchant Marines. Survivors include a brother (private) of Kaukauna and a nephew (private).

LORINA ESLINGER

Mrs. Eugene (Lorina) Eslinger, of 2710 E. Goodwin Rd., Manitowoc, died Tuesday evening, May 25, 1999, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 28, 1999, at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church. Rev. Dennis Broehm will officiate with entombment to follow in Knollwood Mausoleum.

The former Lorina Horstman, was born December 22, 1924, in the town of Two Rivers, daughter of the late Adolph and Elenore Freis Horstman. Lorina graduated from Lincoln High School in 1942, and graduated from the Manitowoc County Teacher College, and received her BS in education from the UW Oshkosh, and received her Masters Degree in education from UW Madison.

On December 12, 1957, Loraina was married to Engene (sic) B. Eslinger, at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. She worked for the rural schools in Manitowoc County for five years, the Madison School in Manitowoc for nine years, and taught for 16 years teaching Kindergarten for Immanuel Lutheran Grade School, retiring in 1988. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid of Immanuel.

Survivors include her husband, Eugene, Manitowoc; one son and daughter-in-law, William (Cheryl) Eslinger, Austin, Texas; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy (Steven) Krah, Brillion, Elizabeth (Darrell) Durig, Tuscon, Ariz.; eight grandchildren, Matthew, Thomas, Peter, Patience, Constance, and Philip Krahn, Rebekah Durig, Hannah Eslinger; one brother and one sister-in-law, Delmar (Irene) Horstman, Manitowoc, two brothers-in-law and four sisters-in-law, Edward (Carol) Eslinger, Mishicot, Leonard (Dorothy) Reindl, Two Rivers, Jeanette Eslinger, Mishicot, Marlene Eslinger, Mishicot; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends survive. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Relatives and friends may call at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
Memorials would be appreciated for Immanuel Lutheran School or Manitowoc Lutheran High School.
