Pioneer Rest Cemetery There is a grave marker in Plot [18-2] that gives her date of birth 1877 date of death 1923 ossw. Fred T. Sr. In that plot as well there is a marker that says Ida Freitag Jonas bur. 10 -22-1956

The story has been told by Ida's son Frederick William that Ida died after being kicked by a horse. He stated he was standing next to his mother when she was kicked. Fred T., Frederick William's father blamed him for the accident. Frederick William was forced to quit school in order to take care of his younger siblings.

In 1956, Ida's son Harry, drove to Minnesota to gather the remains of Ida and bring them back to Wisconsin. It has been told by her granddaughter (Elaine Jonas Chaloupka) that the remains fit inside a shoe box. There is conflicting stories as to why the body was disinterred and moved to Two Rivers. Some say it was because a Highway was being reconstructed in Morton, over the cemetery grounds. An old timer from the area, stated the cemetery Ida was buried in was not affected by the construction. But she was moved anyway. Ida was re-buried in Pioneer Rest Cemetery Two Rivers.

    Notes:

The information we have about Harvey is a bit sketchy. On 05 Mar. 2001 Elaine Jonas Chaloupka made this statement about her Uncle Harvey: "Harvey Jones was an Air Force Col. he died when he was around 50. ( I think) He died in Texas from heart trouble. He had a wife named Dorothy and a son Byron, who also died at the age of 50. Aunt Dot is still alive I think. She was asked if she ever met Harvey: "Yes I met them they were very nice and talked with a southern accent. only saw them twice in my life. Aunt Dot is an American Indian." She was asked if Harvey was older than Frederick: "He was older than Grandpa. I think the oldest or second oldest. Grandpa was the youngest boy."

On notes written from speaking with Marie Jonas wife of Frederick Jonas: She stated: "Harvey entered the service when he was 17."

    ------------------------
The sudden death of Lorna(sic) Hopp, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Hopp of Norfolk township, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert White in Birch Cooley on January 28, 1928, was a sad blow to the young lady's parents and relatives as well as friends. Lorena Hopp was employed at the White home when she was stricken with heart failure and died almost instantly, no assistance being possible to save her life.
Lorena Hopp was born in Nicolet township, Nicolet, county, Minnesota, on July 15th, 1906, and her childhood was spent in that community, where she received baptism and was also confirmed in the Lutheran faith. At the age of fifteen years she came here together with her parents and has since resided here. She passed away on January 28th as noted above. She would have reached 22 years of age on her next birthday anniversary.
Funeral services were held in the Morton Lutheran church on Wednesday last week. Rev. Bast officiating. The pall bearers were Howard White, Fred Freitag, Walter Freitag, Ervin, Hopp, Elmer Hopp and Henry Freitag, all cousins of the departed one. He early remains were laid to rest in the Morton cemetery. The sympathy of many friends were tendered the bereaved parents and family at the funeral.
